#the complex sentence. Nominal clauses

A complex sentence has two or more clauses, at least one of which is subordinate to a principal clause. Nominal clauses are closely connected with the main clause, and if such a clause is removed, both the structure and the meaning of the sentence are change or become ungrammatical.
a) Subject clause functions as a subject of the main clause which has no subject of its own. 2 patterns: when a subject clause precedes the predicate of the main clause; final position, the subject is occupied by formal introductory it.
b) Predicate clause functions as predicate/subject complement to the link/copular verb within the main clause.
c) Object clause refers to verbs in different forms and functions, to adjectives, and occasionally to nouns. Typical type of object clauses is indirect speech following verbs of saying.
