Great Britian – Climate.

“Great Britian” has several different names. Some people say “Britain”, or “the United Kingdom”, or just “U.K.” There are four different countries in the United Kingdom: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The capital of England and Great Britain is London. The capital of Wales is Cardiff. The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh. The capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast.

Altogether more than 56 million people live in Britain, many of them in big industrial cities. But there are a lot of lonely hills and woods, quite rivers, lakes, and farmland in Britain.

The British Isles are separated from the European continent by the North Sea and the English Channel. The Western coast of Great Britain is washed by The Atlantic Ocean and the Irish Sea. The total area of the country is over 244 000 (two hundred and forty four thousand) square kilometers.

The Atlantic Ocean and the warm waters of Gulf Stream influence the climate of the British Isles. It is mild the year round. There is sometimes fog, but not so often as foreigners think. British people never know what tomorrow’s weather will be like.
